— NETWORK OF EXCELLENCE — on Deformable Object Manipulation by Robots

Advancing Manipulation of Deformable Objects by Robots:
Building the future Through Collaboration

Ambition

Establishing a sustainable European Network of Excellence (NOE) for robot deformable object manipulation.

Excellence

Providing cutting edge knowledge and experience in the latest research and application approaches for robot deformable object manipulation.

Community

European academic and industrial actors, researchers, students, practitioners and interested individuals.

Challenge and opportunity

Research on deformable object manipulation (DOM) is growing rapidly across Europe and worldwide. However, much of this work remains fragmented.
Independent efforts are pushing the boundaries of what robots can achieve, yet stronger coordination is needed to fully unlock the field’s potential.
The Network of Excellence on Deformable Object Manipulation by Robots (DOM-net.eu) was created to connect isolated research efforts into a strong, collaborative ecosystem in Europe.
You can join the the network here!

Our goals

  1. Connect academia, industry, policymakers, and regulators in a collaborative framework
  2. Amplify research and application efforts
  3. Develop a roadmap for the field’s future direction
  4. Establish a formal network of excellence that fosters sustained collaboration

Concept and approach

DOM-net.eu aims to provide cutting edge knowledge and experience in the latest research and application approaches for robot deformable object manipulation (DOM). It also aims to set-up and maintain a database of researchers, institutions and other professional entities on the topic of robot knowledge on the one-hand and a collection — a repository of knowledge through collecting lists of relevant (scientific) literature and information on on-going and past projects on the topic of DOM.

By joining the network through enrolling here*, you will also receive bi-monthly newsletters, summarizing latest news, achievements and events on the topic of DOM.

* you will be added to the list after the moderators check your entry

The origin of DOM-net

DOM-net was born within the ROMANDIC project (RObot MANipulation of Deformables through dynamIC actions), which aims to advance the state-of-the-art in robotic handling of deformable objects.
Through dedicated events—such as staff exchanges, workshops, summer and winter schools, and senior researcher seminars— ROMANDIC fosters collaboration between leading European researchers and industry partners. Project ROMANDIC was conducted between project partners JSI, CSIC and KIT.
